The Final Coat

Author corey    Category Projects     Tags

I finished the primary painting of the bedroom last night. It actually looks pretty good, much better than pink! I think I should have gone with a flat paint; semi-gloss is actually pretty darn glossy – especially on a dark color. But the question is, can I mix semi-gloss and flat in the same room? Or will I have to repaint the light color (which looks fine in semi-gloss) flat too?

There’s a bit more to do – I need to touch up the floor boards and even up the paint against the door frames. I’d post a picture (I’ve installed photobblog) but I haven’t modified my templates to handle pictures yet. Unfortunantly, this plugin can only handle one picture per post which is kinda lame.

Anyhow, guess I should get back to playing StarWars Galaxies. :)

Red, Green, Blue

Picking colors and a theme for your website has always been the hardest part of creating any online content. Sure, someone has to write the text, someone has to make the graphics, someone has to FTP it all to the server. But none of those things work unless they are color coordinated (except for the FTP upload, maybe).

It’s more strenuous to pick colors to paint your house, but not by much.

I haven’t settled on a theme yet so you might see this page change colors often, at least until I get sick of it and just pick one “that’ll do”.

Maybe I’ll just do a nice black and white text-only page. If only we could forget about these fancy-dancy stylesheets, background colors, and sudo-buttons.

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’….

Author corey    Category Projects     Tags

I just put the first coat of paint on the first room I’ve ever painted by myself in the first house I’ve ever owned. Whew. Of course, it was only one wall (and it even has a window), so it wasn’t a huge task. However, after I finished covering the wall and surveyed my masterpiece I immediately uttered an ‘ick!’. The stupid pink paint originally on the wall shows through in spots. Ahh well, that’s why you do more than one coat right? So I figured, ok, 30mins to an hour and I can put on the other coat.

But what does the can say? 4 hours! Four hours! They expect me to stay up until 2 or 3am just so I can put on a second coat?! They must be insane. I guess my mom uses faster drying paint or something, ’cause she never waits more than an hour.

Once my main site is done I’ll post some before and after pictures. The paint really is going on well (a nice light gray), just need to cover that damning pink.

First Night Flight

Author corey    Category Flying     Tags

I just got back from my first night flight with my instructor. It’s pretty darn cool, but there’s a lot more things to watch for as well.

It’s amazing how far you can see at night. We took off from Jeffco (BJC) around 9pm (after about 30 minutes of discussing night flight on the ground and then taxi & runup) and climbed up to 7,500 MSL. From there we could see Loveland and Fort Collins like it was only a stones throw away. Of course, even in a 172 it only takes 30 minutes to Fort Collins from Westminster.

Night flight is pretty interesting to begin with, but landing is even more interesting. We did a couple of stop-and-goes (you have to come to a complete stop to count it as a night landing) at Longmont (2V2), which has a VASI. This is a set of lights that tell you if you are high or low in your approach to the runway. You follow this in and the moment your landing light picks out the runway you have to start a slow flare and watch as the ground comes towards you. It’s funny ’cause you think “ok, only a few more feet” and then BAM! You’re on the ground. Distance is very hard to determine with it’s dark!

Jeffco’s VASI was out for some reason, so that was definantly interesting!

So anyhow, it was a blast. I can’t wait to go on my night cross country flight! :)

7mph.com

Author corey    Category News     Tags

Well, this blog represents the start of my personal site, 7mph.com. I haven’t worked out what exactly
the site is going to look like yet, but I’m sure once I have that figured out I’ll be able to modify
these colors. I know I know, it hurts my eyes too. We’ll just have to live with it until I can work
up some kinda color scheme for my whole site.
