Faster than a speeding bullet
OK, so maybe it’s not that fast, but it’s fast!
I wanted to make sure I had a picture of my 2004 Yamaha R6 up before it got dropped or thrown off a cliff or something, so here it is.
It took me a day or so to get use to how different a crotch rocket rides, it sure is nice to be home. No more putzing along on a 750 cruiser. This thing is pure, unfettered, speed.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the digital speedometer, but it’s grown on me. The whole dash is has a nice red glow to it that is really easy to read a night, which wasn’t always the easiest thing to do on my cruiser. The only thing I don’t like about sportbike’s is how low the gauges are. Maybe it’s just because I’m tall and don’t normally stretch out on the bike, but you definantly have to look down to see how fast you are going – something I prefer not to do if I have to look down to see how fast I’m going. :P

I have some parts coming in that I’m going to be using to replace the large turn signals and unsightly 2ft long “fender”. The fender is what the license plate sits on; the bike will look a whole lot cleaner without that extra plastic hanging down. On second thought, maybe I should wait until I get some frame sliders installed before removing those large turn signals.
Spring Forward
Spring is just around the corner. March 20th. Yes!!!
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for those 30mph northern fronts that drop the temperature down to the single digits. And those lovely weeks where we have 60 degree days and 20 degree nights with 4-5 inches of snow in-between. They do say, here in Colorado, “if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute”. I guess that’s one of the reasons this place is so cool. Except for the traffic. And the insane parking fees. And the …
With the coming of Spring I’ve got it stuck in my head to get a new motorcycle. Ok, so what if my current motorcycle is a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 (black, of course) with only 2600 miles. I’m sorry, but I’m a sport bike guy. I like riding my Spirit 750, but it’s just not the same! What else can you ride for under 10 grand that’ll let you reach 160mph before you can count to 20? While popping wheelies? With one hand? While chewing bubblegum?
Maybe I should get the Yamaha YZF-R6?. Or the Honda CBR600RR.
Or maybe I should go all out and buy a Honda CBR1000RR .. which I hear is an awesome bike. Unfortunately, my Honda Dealer doesn’t get them in until April. I considered getting a Yamaha R1 too, but maybe I should stick to the 600cc bikes.
I’m leaning towards the R6, but we’ll see how long it takes to get my tax return – the 1000RR might be available!
I’ve started to read WilWheaton.Net lately, and darn, but he’s a funny guy. He has a great writing style and is very entertaining to read. For those of you who don’t know who Wil Wheaton is, check out his book Dancing Barefoot. Even if you don’t read WilWheaton.Net regularly, you have to read this four part post.
In other news, it seems I’m to be deployed overseas again. It’s too bad it will cut into my summer, but hopefully we will only be gone a month or so. Maybe I’ll even get to bring back some souvenirs this time – hopefully not the bad kind! Honestly, I really don’t mind playing with cool toys for awhile; just as long as those Army guys can keep the mortars off my head. :)
