Cancun Trip #1
Cheryl and I flew to Cancun on the 26th of January, getting to stay for a whole 7 nights at an all-inclusive resort called the Riu Tequila. Thankfully, while the trip was through FunJet Vacations, we were on a United Airline’s flight. I don’t think I would have enjoyed the flight as much if we were on Random Airline #8 flight.
The Riu Tequila is pretty nice. Unfortunately, it didn’t have it’s own beach front property, but we were across the road from two other Riu resorts that did. Plenty of sand to play with, though sometimes it seemed pretty scarce on available beach chairs.
All-inclusive means food as well as drinks. They had buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They had plenty of fresh fruit and interesting dishes (not much mexican it seems), but even then I ended up eating pizza a lot just because I couldn’t find anything that didn’t look weird. And, of course, I don’t drink so I got all the free Pepsi I could handle, but Cheryl made use of the drink menu.
The weather was great. I don’t believe it ever got past 85 degrees and never cooler than 60. There was one day that was kinda cloudy that I thought might bring some rain, but it blew over. Other than a little bit of wind (and some choppy water) it was very very nice. Humidity was certainly tolerable and only really noticeable after a shower or when you realize your bathing suit is still wet the next morning.
We only did two “excursions” while we were there. First, we went on a snorkeling tour where they took us out on a boat to a less-choppy area with coral reef. It was pretty fun, being my first time snorkeling. We saw two squid, which was cool; I almost missed them, seeing as they are practically transparent and all. The other “excursion” wasn’t really an excursion, but we rented two jet ski’s at the beach and cruised around on those for awhile. It was a lot of fun riding the jet ski’s (also my first time) in the waves, though sometimes the loud SMACKing sound made me winch. We were both incredibly sore the next day, we could barely walk! I guess jet skiing is harder than it feels!
And that’s pretty much it. Cheryl bought some trinkets at the local gouge-the-tourist-shoppe and I bought a necklace for my sister (since she asked for it). Hopefully she’ll like it, maybe I’ll even give it to her before I go again.
The flight home was uneventful except for the fact that there were like 50 people on our flight (lots of seats empty) and customs took forever.
While it was a great vacation, it was also nice to be home again.
